Priyanka to be in Lucknow Next Week to Finalise Yatra Program

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will visit Lucknow next week to give a final shape to the “Pratigya Yatra” programme to be launched by the party unit ahead of the Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh next year.

She will have scheduled meetings with the manifesto committee and with the election committee to assess the party’s poll preparedness in the state, sources said.

Priyanka is likely to participate in one of the training programmes being organised by Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee.

On Thursday, she targetted the Yogi Adityanath government and said, “The government is doing drama ahead of polls while withdrawing cases of stubble burning.”

The Congress in Uttar Pradesh will take out a ‘Congress Pratigya Yatra’ with the tagline — ‘Hum Vachan Nibhayenge’, ahead of the Assembly elections, due early next year.

Priyanka has said that the yatra would cover a distance of 12,000 kilometres and will pass through all major villages and towns.

The date of the yatra is yet undecided, though sources said that it was likely to begin on the Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.

Addressing a meeting of the advisory and political affairs committee of the UPCC, she had on September 10 said that the yatra would mobilise party workers across the state and also establish a contact with the people.

The Congress in Uttar Pradesh has asked the ticket seekers to deposit Rs 11,000 through pay order or DD or RTGS in the party account.

The circular issued on September 14 by State President Ajay Kumar Lallu says for the upcoming Assembly polls 2022, the party has authorised district and city presidents to collect the application and in the state, two others have been given authorisation to deposit the application along with the fees. The money along with the application has to be deposited till September 25.

The Congress has already finalised candidates for about 90 seats for the Assembly polls which include those who have been MLAs or prominent party leaders.

HistoryTV18’s latest offering is the ‘Modern Marvel: World’s Largest Cricket Stadium’, set to premiere on the 17th of September at 9 PM. The documentary tells the story of building cricket’s largest arena on the historic Motera ground in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad. The brand new Narendra Modi Stadium, inaugurated by the President of India earlier this year, seats as many as 1,32,000 spectators. This makes it the world’s largest cricket stadium by seating capacity, surpassing the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Australia.

It was rebuilt at a cost of ₹ 800 crore in just 38 months. Now, HistoryTV18 presents an in-depth documentary on this massive feat of design and engineering – constructing a futuristic stadium that is purpose-built for the modern-day game. Filmed on location in 4K and high-definition, the documentary reveals never-seen-before aspects of the logistics, architecture and planning that go into building a sporting venue of this scale while presenting jaw-dropping facts bound to fascinate viewers. The film also features cricketing luminaries, such as Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev and Ravi Shastri, and cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Viewers will also get insights and interesting details from BCCI Hon. Secretary, Jay Shah as well as from former Indian cricketers Gautam Gambhir, Parthiv Patel.

‘Modern Marvel: World’s Largest Cricket Stadium’ will not just enthrall viewers with astonishing facts and figures about the newest landmark in the world of cricket. It also features India’s cricketing superstars reminiscing about historic moments in Indian cricket and career milestones that were reached on the old Motera pitch. Ravi Shastri speaks about playing the first test match ever on this ground against the West Indies in 1983. While ‘Haryana Hurricane’ and India’s World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev talks about Sunil Gavaskar becoming the first cricketer in the history of the game to reach 10,000 runs in Test cricket. All this and more happened at Motera. “It was a big thing for us to celebrate… a cricketer from our generation made 10,000 runs, so it was massive!” says Kapil Dev. While Gautam Gambhir remembers playing a tough World Cup quarter-final against Australia in 2011, Parthiv Patel recollects that Kapil Dev had also broken a record right here in Motera surpassing Richard Hadlee to become Test cricket’s highest wicket-taker with 432 scalps. BCCI Hon. Secretary Jay Shah reminds viewers that it was also here that Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar had scored his maiden double century in Test cricket.

And now, upon this hallowed ground has risen Ahmedabad’s glittering new edifice, a modern marvel of design and engineering and a fitting ode to a sport that has given billions of people and generations of Indians, some of their most cherished memories. The sheer scale and complexity of the Gujarat Cricket Association’s grand project also meant bringing in design architects from Australia, roofing experts from the US, specialized canopy fabric from Japan, cables from Italy, and revolutionary LED stadium lighting from Spain. Footballer Plays Calcutta League Match Hours After Father’s Death, Wins Hearts

Late last year, India’s fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was in the middle of the series against Australia when he received the tragic news of his father’s death. However, the young man decided to stay back with his team and continued to play in the series owing to Covid-19 restrictions.

Kolkata Maidan witnessed something similar, on September 13, when a young football player, Akash Mukherjee, received the news of his father passing away during a match of the ongoing Calcutta Football League. However, he stayed put and kept playing his team. To make matters even grimmer, Akash suffered an injury during the game, but despite this, he did not abandon his side. Only when his side won the game did he proceed to the crematorium to perform the last rites of his father.

Akash’s side Peerless beat Tollygunge Pioneer 6-0 in the game and his commitment to the side made everyone around him appreciating this young Bengali footballer’s immense courage and patience.

Peerless was taking on Tollygunge pioneer at East Bengal ground. However, Akash had lost his father at 8 in the morning, but despite this, Akash turned up and played a pivotal part for Peerless.

Akash took charge of the defence for the side, and his side was dominant right through the game and at one point, his side pulled away 6-0 when Akash clashed with the striker and fell down on his hand. Even after this incident, he came on the field and only when the match ended he headed to the crematorium.

Kolkata football fans are fascinated by the mental strength of the young man and his responsibility towards the team. Perhaps, his father would be proud of his son’s commitment and honesty towards the game and his team.

Cong Blames Previous BJP Govt, RSS for Scrapping of OBC Quota in Local Body Polls

OBCs used to get 27 per cent reservation in electoral wards of municipal bodies and zilla parishads (district councils).

  • Last Updated:September 16, 2021, 14:46 IST

Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on Wednesday accused the previous BJP-led state government of messing up the political reservation for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in local bodies. He also alleged that it was the RSS that has been using the BJP for removing political reservation. The Supreme Court in March this year had read down the OBC quota in some local governing bodies in the state citing non-availability of empirical data to substantiate the reservation percentage. The apex court had observed that total reservation should not exceed 50 per cent. OBCs used to get 27 per cent reservation in electoral wards of municipal bodies and zilla parishads (district councils).

Speaking to reporters, Patole said, “It was Devendra Fadnavis, who as a chief minister, issued a circular and postponed the Nagpur ZP elections in 2017. It was followed by several Zilla Parishads approaching the court and finally the Supreme Court read down the Maharashtra Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis Act 1961 and the OBC community lost the electoral quota.” “It is indeed the move of the RSS that has been using the BJP to get rid of reservation from the politics,” Patole alleged. When the OBC quota case was in the Supreme Court, the BJP-led Union government did not share the empirical data. Even such data was not given to Fadnavis as well when he was the state chief minister, he said. “This is the key reason behind the OBCs losing the electoral quota,” he claimed.

Meanwhile BJP today held agitation across the state demanding that the MVA government restore the OBC quota in the elections. Fadnavis, who is the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, said, “The state government’s decision to issue an ordinance is a welcome decision, although very late. It may not be useful in the upcoming polls of local governing bodies, but could be helpful in the subsequent polls. Meanwhile, the state government should not forget to get the empirical data and support the Backward Classes Commission for its work.” The Maharashtra government on Wednesday decided in its cabinet meeting that it would bring an ordinance to grant OBC quota in the upcoming by-elections to a set of local governing bodies without crossing the Supreme Court-mandated 50 per cent cap on reservation. The BJP staged agitations in all maojor cities and districts seeking restoration of the OBC reservation.

Overall, 38 per cent of total learners in India today are women, up from 24 per cent in 2016. The median age of women learners on the platform is 27, four years younger than the global median age of 31.

The maximum number of women are enrolling in STEM courses and entry-level professional certificates. The overall course enrollments has increased from 26 per cent in 2019 to 36 per cent in 2021 for women. For STEM courses, the gender gap narrowed from 23 per cent enrollments from women in 2019 to 32 per cent in 2021. While in entry-level professional certificates, it has gone up from 22 per cent in 2019 to 30 per cent in 2021.

The certificates courses are mostly offered by industry leaders such as Google, IBM, and Facebook, and are designed to prepare learners without a college degree or technology experience for a wide range of high-demand digital jobs.

A balance in digital and human skills

Top skills among Indian women show a balanced investment in human and digital skills. Four out of the top five skills are STEM skills, like computer programming with 2 million women enrollments, followed by machine learning with 1.9 million, probability and statistics at 1.8 million, and theoretical computer science at 1.6 million.

The top 10 skills from the past year also include critical business and personal development skills, like communication (1.5 million women learners), leadership and management (1.1 million), and entrepreneurship (1 million).

Top courses teaching job-relevant skills include Programming for Everybody (Getting Started with Python) from University of Michigan, Machine Learning from Stanford University, English for Career Development from University of Pennsylvania, and Financial Markets from Yale University.

Mobile phone users maximum

Further, 62 percent of women learners in India use mobiles to learn online courses as compared to 48 per cent globally. Other factors contributing to enrollment increases from women include adding practice quizzes before challenging assessments, listing most common mistakes for peer-reviewed assignments, and distributing assessments throughout a course.

Coursera has more than 87 million learners worldwide and 5,000 courses are offered on the platform. The Women and Skills Report by the edtech includes data from 40 million new learners who registered during the pandemic between January 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021.

SC disposes of PILs seeking free vaccinations of citizens | India News

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday disposed of two Public Interest Litigations (PILs) seeking formulation of uniform pan India policy of free Covid-19 vaccination of everyone and giving priority to delivery persons.
A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud disposed of the pleas saying there is no need to have another PIL for a pan-India policy on free vaccination as the government has already modified its policy for maximum coverage of the vaccine.
“With regard to vaccination, there has been a modification in the policy of the government for max coverage of the vaccine. In such circumstances, the counsel of the petitioner does not press the petition. We grant the counsel liberty to assist the court during suo moto Covid-19 proceedings,” the Bench said.
The PIL filed by the Social Democratic Party of India sought formulation of a uniform pan India policy of Covid-19 vaccination for providing free of cost to every person in India. Another PIL filed by one Adarsh Kumar sought direction for giving priority to delivery persons in vaccination.
The bench also disposed of the plea in the wake of subsequent developments. The PIL filed by the Social Democratic Party of India during the second wave stated that under Article 21, every person in India has the invaluable right to get the vaccination free of cost.
The petition further stated that if a large population, including a major chunk of poor sections is vaccinated freely, it will help in improving the herd immunity amongst the citizens.

health: France suspends 3,000 unvaccinated health workers

PARIS: Thousands of health workers across France have been suspended without pay for failing to get vaccinated against Covid-19 ahead of a deadline this week, Health Minister Olivier Veran said Thursday.
“Some 3,000 suspensions were notified yesterday to employees at health centres and clinics who have not yet been vaccinated,” Veran told RTL radio.
He added that “several dozens” had turned in their resignations rather than sign up for the jabs.
That compares with 2.7 million health workers overall, Veran said, adding that “continued healthcare is assured”.
President Emmanuel Macron gave staff at hospitals, retirement home workers and the fire service an ultimatum in July to get at least one shot by September 15 or face unpaid suspension.
Many nurses in particular have been reluctant to get vaccinated, citing safety or efficacy concerns, posing the risk that France’s inoculation drive could stall.
France’s national public health agency estimated last week that roughly 12 percent of hospital staff and around six percent of doctors in private practices have yet to be vaccinated.
Overall, 70 percent of the French have received both doses required to be fully vaccinated, which are available to everyone over age 12 – one of the highest rates in the world.
But 74 per cent have had one dose only, suggesting that many people are holding out against the jabs despite their widespread availability.
